A Note on Size: The Mark of a Handmade Piece
Because every hand-knotted rug is woven entirely by hand on a traditional loom, slight variations in final size are natural and expected. After weaving, each rug goes through a traditional washing, stretching, and drying process. During this stage, the natural wool fibres relax and settle, and the knots tighten, which can cause the rug to shrink slightly from its original loom dimensions.
A variation of 1–3% (typically 1 to 2 inches, depending on the rug size) is considered standard for genuine hand-knotted rugs worldwide. Far from being a flaw, this is a sign of authenticity proof that your rug was made by human hands, not a machine. No two hand-knotted rugs are ever exactly alike, and that is precisely what makes yours one of a kind.
